D8: Offshore to Charleston 11/2/2019

We hung out at Bald Head Island as long as the marina would let us.  We wanted to leave in the afternoon so we could arrive in Charleston the next morning.  At 1350 we decided to go top off our fuel before heading out.  We took 21.85 gals of diesel then departed from Bald Head at 1405.

As we left the Cape Fear the wind was light and dead behind us.  So we motored.  Around 1620 as the sun was dropping, we could at least motor sail with the RPMs set to 1000, which kept us going at 6 kts.

At 1700, the wind started freshening and we turned off the motor and sailed with a reefed main and reefed Genoa.  This is the sail plan that we maintained for the rest of the trip.  Cathy took watch at 2100 so I could try to get some rest.  In order to avoid getting in before sunrise, we kept the speed down to 6 kts.
