FlightRisk20230111ToVero
On January 11, we left Titusville at 0805 to head down the ICW to Vero Beach, where we arrived at 16:30. It was a long slog down the canal. We tried to get a mooring in the Vero Beach Marina, but they are so crowded that they raft multiple boats per mooring. We did not want to do that. We hoped to anchor north of the mooring field, but the field had expanded so far north that we could not find room. So, we moved down south of the bridge and tried to anchor, when I ran aground. Normally, I plan my anchor spots and approach, but my original plans failed so I had to ad lib. I saw a shallow spot on the charts, but I was moving faster than I realized and swung wide right into it. Cathy was warning me the entire time. I was able to kedge off at 1 am near high tide. I reanchored in deeper water in the dark among a crowd of boats. All went well in the end.
