Log 40 - Gloucester to Onset Bay
On September 1, 2015, we awoke in Gloucester, MA and met my nephew Matt Wigton and his new son, Allistair, for breakfast. Matt picked us up at the marina and took us to his local favorite breakfast restaurant in Rockport. This was the first time that we had met Allistair so we really enjoyed the breakfast. He is one happy kid.
Matt and Allistair briefly checked out our boat before we headed off to Cape Cod Canal. It was a long trip across Cape Cod Sound and we had to time the entry into the canal to go with the tidal flow. Otherwise, we would be fighting strong currents in the wrong direction.
We made it in time and had a rollicking ride down the canal with currents of 4-5 knots. We finally anchored in Onset Bay, which we found much nicer than expected. We would go there again.
We were assisted by a very nice cruising couple on Menage. We met them in Gloucester, but they left before us. He saw us coming in the anchorage and pointed us to some very good spots to anchor.
We have met some kind and generous people on this journey.
