Log 41 - Onset Bay to Newport
On September 2, 2015, we arose at a reasonably early time to start on our trip to Newport, RI at 8:00 am. We knew the current and wind would be against us heading out of the southern part of the canal, but we wanted to get to Newport at a reasonable hour. We exited the Cape Cod Canal jetty at 9:20 am and headed across Buzzards Bay.
The weather OK but mostly hazy and we had 10-15k winds out of the SW. We were only able to sail the last 2.5 hours of our trip as we headed into Newport.
The middle of Buzzards Bay is not very interesting, except for a few lighthouses that I have shown in my pictures.
The entrance to Newport is interesting and pretty with lots of very large homes dotting the shoreline. The harbor itself is rather busy and confusing, simply because there are so many boats hanging around on moorings. It was hard to see land through all the boats.
We took a trip ashore for groceries and did some minor exploring. We definitely want to go back when we have more time.
