Log 43 - Mystic to Port Jefferson
We left Mystic at 7:30 am and headed out the channel, which is a bit challenging but well marked. Once out of the Mystic River, we went by Fisher's Island and the North Dumpling Lighthouse. http://www.longislandlighthouses.com/ndumpling.htm
Once out in Long Island Sound, we had a nice sail down the sound to Port Jefferson. We had 15 knot NW winds which enabled us to sail for a while. We even used the whisker pole for a while. Unfortunately, todays run was very long and the downwind sail was taking too long, so we had to suck it in and run under power.
Port Jefferson is a nice harbor and we picked it because of its location down the sound. The entrance channel has a narrow spot which you might have to share with a ferry, but it was really quite easy. We picked up a mooring very close to town. We are pretty sure that our boat picked up a new scratch on the side from the Port Jefferson Launch Boat when he came by to collect the fee.
