Log21 Aug 10 - Assessing the damage
I did not take any pictures today (Monday). Basically, we spent all day working with the boat yard, performing the "in-the-water" inspection and determining what needed to happen.
The conclusion was that we need to replace all four engine mounts as well as the bell housing, which was cracked on the starboard side. In addition, we should haul the boat to remove and inspect the transmission, the prop shaft, and the prop, all of which could also be damaged.
To make matters worse, the first assessment indicated that some of the parts would have to be sent from Japan, which could take 8-14 days.
I spent the day on the phone with the insurance company and eventually the marine surveyor. The boat yard was trying to find the parts locally.
Cathy and I took a few more walks, but mostly dealt with details. Sorry. No interesting photos.
