Log24 Aug 13 - Haul out day
Today, we hauled the boat to start the inspection and begin the repairs. After the insurance surveyor examined the bottom, he approved moving forward with the next steps.
To remove the prop shaft, we had to remove the rudder first. Once that came out, they move the boat into a permanent position in the yard on stands. The view from the boat is incredible. I guess we are lucky in our misfortune.

Damaged cutlass bearing
The "pot wahp" (trap line) was sucked up into the tube on the right and chewed up the rubber gasket (cutless bearing) inside. The part on the left is the base of the prop with a few barnacles on it. The shaft in the center is the prop shaft that extends through the hull and into the transmission. The tube on the left is a metal housing that surrounds the epoxy shaft tube that goes through the hull. See diagram in next slide.
